I have wanted to enter the Western Australian Black Swan Art Prize for a few years but initially I struggled finding a famous Western Australian for the portrait. I then went to Canada for seven months. I was determined this year to enter.
Karl Langdon is a leading sports commentator and radio personality in Western Australia and a former Australian Rules Footballer with the Subiaco Football Club and the West Coast Eagles.
I wanted the portrait to have Karl looking towards the sun, the light reflecting off his face. We met and initially I took a set of photographs as pointillism is very time consuming and he couldn't sit in a traditional sense for the portrait.
The portrait has taken six months to complete as its much larger than my usual works. I used artline markers black, brown, orange and yellow all 0.2 sized nibs.
It's been a monumental task but I have enjoyed creating this portrait. Wish me luck !
