The Yielding

This picture was done to accompany a story I wrote for the Brooklyn Library Sketchbook Project.  Its a dark fantasy story and this image was perfect.  It was completed with 0,1 and 0.3 Artline system markers. The biggest challenge with this picture was the hands.

Wayne Murdoch

My newest pointillist picture is of the amazing Wayne Murdoch from Thee Deadtime Philharmonic.  you can hear his band here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_OcFb5djks ( this is one of my favourites "Spine").  What I like most about Wayne is his edgy, ethereal appearance.  This picture took over 55 hours and I primarily used 0.1 and 0.3 artline system markers.  I like the delicate nature of this picture.

Chad Gerber

My latest pointillist picture is of a very cool, multi-talented performer called Chad Gerber.  The picture took over 55 hours and was completed using a 0.1 and a 0.3 Artline System Markers.  I liked the image and enjoyed dotting the nuances of the hoodie. Check out talented Chad Gerber http://www.woodrowgerber.com/

Jasper James

My latest pointillist picture is the singer Jasper James from the group In My Coma.   http://www.inmycoma.com/  I used artline drawing system markers with 0.1 and 0.3 nibs.  I have been experimenting with a finer texture with my dots and this is achieved using smaller nibs.  The picture took 54 hours to complete !

A New Sketchbook Project

I am starting a new sketchbook project.  This one is a verse and I am illustrating my poem with pointillist pictures.  I love writing poetry.  The topic I chose was actually inspired by the meaning of my real name ... Sylvana.  My name means forest maiden or nymph and I love the story of the nymphs and satyrs and their endless game in the forest.  I wrote the poem first and them started to dot the pictures.  I am dotting them out of order so to speak.  So this first picture is actually from the middle of the book .  I am currently trying to decide if I need to embellish the illustrated page ( maybe with some silver or gold details ) or leave it black and white and if I should have two pictures per page or one.
Time will tell !

Luke and Yoda

I am a huge Star Wars fan and I have always had a thing for Luke Skywalker !  I chose this image because of the look on Luke's face and the cheeky return look of Yoda.  I completed this picture using Artline System Markers with the two nib sizes, 0.1 and 0.3.  Though the image took longer due to the finer nibs it also achieves a more delicate look.

Chained

This picture was completed using only two markers , a 0.4 and a 0.1 nib.
I liked the perspective of this picture and the way her hands are complaint against the chains...I could say its a metaphor, but I also like the notion ;)

Marco Pierre White

I have been a fan of Marco Pierre White from when I first saw him in Interview Magazine. This picture was completed using primarily 0.1 and 0.2 yellow, brown and orange artline markers with a little black.  The biggest challenge was Marco Pierre White's hair !

Norman Reedus as Daryl

This piece was inspired by the TV show The Walking Dead.  Norman Reedus plays the anti hero Daryl, the person you would definitely stand behind in the event of a zombie apocalypse !  This picture took 50 hours + using brown, orange, black and yellow fine line markers, nib size 0.1 and 0.2.
