Steampunked

My choice of picture this time is steampunk..I have been a steampunk for about four years and was lucky enough to meet and watch the subject of this picture perform at a New Years Eve concert at the Edison in LA.  Captain Robert performs with a band called Abney Park. http://www.abneypark.com/
This picture was completed using brown, black, yellow and orange markers with nib sizes from 0.1 to 0.4.  My main challenge is that the pictures are so much smaller than I usually do and I didnt have a 0.1 brown nib !  I enjoy using colours with certain pictures and a steampunk topic lends itself to rich colours.

These Are A Few Of My Favourite Things...

I spent a day or two thinking about what I should create for my journal..I had already chosen pointillism as the medium, but the actual subjects for each piece of art have taken alot more pondering.. I am going to choose subjects that make me happy, people, things and places that make my soul sing.

The first picture I have decided to do for my journal is a singer I really love called Jimmy Gnecco.  I have loved his music for years and I like his look...The first step of creating a pointillist picture for me is the rough sketch.  I then choose the colour and the various nib sizes I will be using .  For this picture I have chosen 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 and 0.5.  This is a smaller size of paper than I usually work with so it was a little quicker than a pointillist picture takes for me .

Project Beginnings...

I enjoy many aspects of art, my specialty and passion is pointillism.  From an early age I have experimented with this art form, my materials of choice being different markers with various nib sizes.  A picture will have layer upon layer of dots, usually achieved with a variant of nib sizes.

Some of the problems with this form of art are obviously any form of moisture, the fact that dots can make a line, which would ruin the effect and paper quality.

Once I received my sketchbook I realised that my first task is going to be to reinforce the paper, multiple dots in one area can tear paper not strong enough.  In terms of fastening the paper to the sketchbook I also have to consider the adhesive. I cannot use double sided tape as this may create an "edge " which will distort the dot . If I use glue I will have to do it prior to the actual dotting processes this may wet the paper and also ruin the dots.

I am excited about this project as I feel I will get a chance to explore my art technique in a positive way. Here are a few pieces of my art to give you an idea about what it is pointillism is ....
